Romancing the Adriatic: Croatia Honeymoon & Itinerary

When I have my consultation to get to know the couples, a lot of my future honeymooners don’t have a destination in mind but they know what they are looking for:

  • Unique destinations with hidden gems ✅

  • Perfect mixture between relaxation, wellness, and adventure ✅

  • An island escape to escape wedding stress and start marital bliss ✅

  • High quality cuisine and wine for my foodie lovers ✅

They are often shocked when I give the verdict of their dream honeymoon destination: Croatia!

Croatia boasts one of the most breathtaking coastlines in Europe, with crystal-clear waters, picturesque islands, and charming seaside towns. Places like Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Split offer idyllic settings for romantic walks along the shore or intimate beachside dinners. Croatia is home to over a thousand islands, each with its own unique character and allure. Couples can escape to secluded island retreats, where they can enjoy privacy, tranquility, and stunning natural landscapes. The country is steeped in history, with well-preserved medieval towns, ancient ruins, and Venetian architecture. Exploring places like Dubrovnik's Old Town or the Roman Emperor Diocletian's Palace in Split can add a touch of historical romance to your honeymoon. Croatian cuisine is a delightful fusion of Mediterranean and Central European flavors, featuring fresh seafood, locally sourced produce, and aromatic herbs. Food-loving couples can indulge in gourmet meals at waterfront restaurants or explore local markets together. Additionally, Croatia's wine regions offer excellent opportunities for wine tasting and vineyard tours.

For couples who enjoy outdoor adventures, Croatia offers a plethora of activities, including sailing along the Adriatic coast, hiking in national parks like Plitvice Lakes or Krka, and kayaking around remote islands. These shared experiences can create unforgettable memories and strengthen the bond between partners. Croatia is also known for its wellness retreats and spa resorts, where couples can unwind and pamper themselves with massages, thermal baths, and holistic treatments. After the excitement of wedding planning, a honeymoon in Croatia provides the perfect opportunity to relax and rejuvenate together.

Lastly, Croatians are known for their warm hospitality and friendly demeanor, which can make honeymooners feel welcome and cherished. Whether you're staying in a boutique hotel, a luxury resort, or a family-run guesthouse, you're likely to receive attentive service and genuine hospitality throughout your stay.

A Sample Croatia Honeymoon Itinerary

It’s important to note, that I create a personalized itinerary for EVERY 👏 ONE 👏 OF 👏 MY 👏 COUPLES. No two itineraries are the same… During the consultation, I’ll ask you more in depth questions to compose a “pinch me, I’m dreaming” itinerary that works for you two as a couple based on your preferences. BUT this gives you a little taste of what I’m all about as a romance travel advisor.

DAY 1: Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, captivates with its medieval charm and breathtaking coastal views, offering couples an enchanting backdrop for romantic adventures and timeless memories. From strolling the ancient city walls to savoring local delicacies overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik promises a honeymoon experience steeped in history and romance.

So let’s start in Dubrovnik, the enchanting walled city that has found its way on everyone’s travel bucket list [especially for my Game of Throne lovers]. Your private driver will pick you up from Cilipi International Airport and take you to your luxury hotel in the city. I usually pair my couples in their ideal hotel depending on whether you’d like to be immersed in the city culture or relax by the seaside [& keeping budget in mind]. Enjoy your afternoon and evening exploring the vibrant food-scene and nightlife of Dubrovnik, getting over the jetlag and resting from your travel day. With each of my itineraries, I provide recommendations for cafes, clubs, bars, and restaurants as well. Another travel hack: asking the front desk of the hotel/a local for their favorite restaurant recommendation - they would truly know & I have yet to be let down!

Peljesac Wine Tour takes you to the beautiful Pelješac peninsula, home to some of the most intriguing red wines in Europe. The tour includes a trio of wine-tasting opportunities in some of Croatia’s most respected wine cellars and visits to their vineyards on the picturesque slopes of this magnificent peninsula.

DAY 2: Pelješac Wine Tour

After a good night sleep, Peljesac Wine Tour takes you to the beautiful Pelješac peninsula, home to some of the most intriguing red wines in Europe. The tour includes a trio of wine-tasting opportunities in some of Croatia’s most respected wine cellars and visits to their vineyards on the picturesque slopes of this magnificent peninsula. Your first wine tasting experience will be in the Matusko winery, where you will get a chance to taste red & white wines and their legendary Dingac, made from 100% Plavac Mali grapes. Next, you will visit the Grgic winery in Trstenik. Miljenko Grgich studied wine-making in Zagreb. After migrating to the US, with only $20 in his pocket, he founded now world-famous Grgich Hills winery in Napa Valley. While you visit the Grgic cellars, you will taste their famous white Posip and red Plavac Mali Dingac. The last winery is Madirazza, which made a name for itself with its stunning vineyards and excellent wines. I would NEVER let me foodie honeymooners down [it’s the most important aspect in my travel…]

DAY 3: Day at Leisure

Not far from the popular town of Kotor is this charming seaside city. Walk along the main road (there's only one in the whole town!) and then head to the water to see the sparkling bay glimmer against the reflection of the hillside architecture.

Spend the day discovering the sites and stories in Dubrovnik Old Town or opt for an organized private tour with an English-speaking guide. We can also book you a spa day at your resort - couples massage? Or hang by the pool!

DAY 4: Single Day Yacht Cruise to Bay of Kotor, Montenegro

This is my FAVORITE day and you’ll see why…. Discover the picturesque coastline of neighboring Montenegro in style, onboard a private motorboat. After breakfast, you will meet your driver at the hotel lobby and head to Dubrovnik port to meet your experienced captain and board the boat. During the journey to Kotor, you will discover numerous hidden coves, secluded beaches, and charming coastal towns. On route, you will also visit Perast, the town that seems as if a little piece of Venice has floated down the Adriatic Sea. This old town on the Bay of Kotor is situated a few kilometers from Kotor and close to the small islets of St. George and Our Lady of the Rocks, both of which you will be able to see during today’s tour. Kotor lies between the dramatic mountains and the sea, and it is a town where bustling shops and cafes fuse with medieval churches, cathedrals, Venetian palaces, and pillars. Explore the town, ask your captain for restaurant recommendations, or simply soak up the Mediterranean lifestyle and watch the world go by as you sip on an espresso in a cafe before returning to Dubrovnik.

DAY 5: Dubrovnik – Hvar

After breakfast, you will meet your private driver who will transfer you to the Dubrovnik port to board the powerboat that will be your stylish ride to island Hvar. On route, your captain will stop on island Korcula, in the historical main town of the same name. Explore the cobblestone streets, vibrant squares, visit the birth-house of the famous world explorer Marko Polo or just soak up the sun and enjoy the easy-going island lifestyle before continuing to island Hvar.

DAY 6: Hvar Wine Tour

In the 4th century BC, the Ancient Greeks brought the first grapevine to this sunny island and planted it in the fertile plain of the ancient town Pharos. People on Hvar cultivated their vineyards with great skill and are blessed with a unique terroir giving Hvar wines very characteristic notes and depth. Your tour will be led by an experienced guide, who will lead you from winery to winery while explaining more of the island’s rich heritage. You can also consider this adventure as a wine timeline because you will be able to explore two completely different wineries and production styles; Tomić- a modern winery in Jelsa with a very colorful and flamboyant owner who is considered a living legend in Croatia, and a very traditional winery Pinjada in Vrboska. Traditional wine tasting is always done in a relaxed atmosphere with an in-depth representation of the entire winemaking process, from the cultivation of grapes to wine production and proper storing procedures in cellars. All your tastings are accompanied by meze-style snacks, giving you the chance to pair excellent wines with the best local products such as aged cheese, wind-dried prosciutto, and of course, fantastic olive oil.

DAY 7: Day at Leisure

Spend the day relaxing by the pool or on the beach or explore the traditional island towns Stari Grad or Jelsa.

DAY 8: Hvar - Split

Discover the timeless allure of Split, where ancient history and seaside charm converge to create an unforgettable honeymoon experience. Lose yourselves in the labyrinthine streets of Diocletian's Palace, savoring intimate moments in hidden courtyards, and then unwind with romantic sunset walks along the sun-kissed Riva promenade, where the Adriatic's gentle embrace sets the scene for eternal love.

After breakfast and check-out, you will head to Hvar port to catch a hydrofoil to Split. That’s right… a hydrofoil… talk about VIP… Upon arrival, a private driver will be waiting at the port to take you to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 9: Private Carriage Ride and Wine Tour in Kastela

This immersive and authentic tour will let you explore the history and gastronomy of Kastela, a place where nobility sought refuge from the Ottoman invasion in the 15th and 16th and built their sturdy mansions, castles, and palaces, 17 in total, many of which remain today. Kastela is also the background to the renowned tragic love story of Miljenko and Dobrila or Croatian Romeo and Juliet, and the location where you will find Mastrinka, one of the oldest olive trees in this part of Europe, which has been bearing fruit for more than 1500 years. Finally, Kastela is the homeland of Zinfandel, since the genetic roots of this famous grape variety have been scientifically traced back to the slopes of Kozjak hill above this coastal city. Your private driver will take you to Kastela where a carriage pulled by two purebred horses will be waiting to take you deep into the vineyards and olive groves. Along the ride, and as you pass some of the castles, including Vitturi Castle, the once home of the tragic lover Dobrila, your coachman will share some of the most fascinating stories that have captivated the locals for centuries. With stops at three local wineries, you will have the opportunity to taste the finest wines of the region, one of them being the famous Kaštelanski Crljenak, the direct descendant of Zinfandel. You will explore the wine cellars and olive storage facilities where you will be able to taste the finest olive oil in the region.

DAY 10: Krka National Park and Sibenik Tour

Embark on a journey through Krka National Park, where cascading waterfalls and lush greenery create a paradise for lovers to explore hand in hand. Afterward, immerse yourselves in the enchanting beauty of Sibenik, where medieval architecture and coastal charm intertwine, promising a romantic escapade filled with timeless moments.

In the morning, your driver will meet you at the hotel and start your panoramic 1.5-hour drive to the entrance to the Krka National Park where you will meet your certified guide. Explore the paths surrounded by lush greenery, the Ethnographic collection, an old crafts exhibition, and check out the old mills right on river Krka. See all of Krka’s natural wonders combined with historical structures and its fairytale beauty that was recognized in 1985 when it was declared a National Park. Prepare your cameras as you reach the main waterfalls Skradinski Buk and observe different species of fish and birds, and also swim next to the waterfalls in the designated swimming area after your sightseeing tour is completed. If the water is too cold for you, you may enjoy the picnic area of the park or take a boat ride to Skradin, a picturesque town situated at the very entrance of the National park, an ideal location for a lunch break in one of the local taverns. On your way back to Split, your driver will stop in Sibenik, a city founded by the Croatian King Petar Krešimir IV in the 11th century. For a while, the city was the seat of Croatian kings. Wander through the narrow streets and explore the beautiful St. James Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which took over 100 years to build. This building stands as a monument to the people of Šibenik and their determination. Return to Split in the evening.

DAY 11: Departure day

Your private driver will meet you at the hotel lobby to transfer you from the hotel to Split International Airport for your flight back home.

The best way to see this Mediterranean port is from above the charming cobblestone streets. The Venetian-period terracotta roofs perfectly complement the blue hues of the gulf, and with the 16th century church in the background, this scene looks like it's taken straight from a postcard.
