Host a Destination Wedding in West Coast Mexico
Planning a destination wedding can be hard because there are SO MANY DESTINATIONS! But if you are dreaming of a destination wedding with a touch of sophistication and Pacific Coast flair, look no further than Mexico’s enchanting West Coast. Grab a margarita and some chips: Here are a few reasons why I, as an expert in planning Destination Weddings, would recommend West Coast Mexico.
The Vibe: Concentrated in and around Cabo San Lucas, the all-inclusive resorts you’ll find on Mexico’s West Coast still represent a big range of options, though I think they skew slightly more sophisticated. The biggest difference, though, is the terrain—you’re trading Caribbean tranquility for Pacific Coast drama. Desert meets jungle meets mountains, and of course you’ve got the crashing Pacific Ocean waves. Whale watching is a big thing here, as is taking out a chartered boat to see the iconic Cabo Arch, a rock formation rising up from the water, up close.
Perfect For: Couples who want an easy escape for their guests, but want to change it up from the typical Cancun experience.
Skip If: You’re a water person. This isn’t the calm seas and wide beaches of the East Coast, so ocean swimming isn’t as much of a thing here (and in some spots can be dangerous).
Bonus: Sunset photos—your wedding photo session is going to be seriously fire. If you’re a sunset lover and are thinking “Mexico” for your destination wedding, keep in mind that the East Coast gets sunrises and the West Coast gets those picture-perfect sunsets.
Resort Price Range: Like Mexico’s East Coast, there’s a big range here as well (though a tad smaller selection than what you’d find on the other side).
Legal Ceremony Requirements: Mexico is a bit of a doozy (and this is why I’m a big fan of legally tying the knot in the U.S. and having a symbolic ceremony in your destination). But if you’re up for it, the requirements for getting married in Mexico include:
Four witnesses present
Arriving at your resort at least three business days prior to your ceremony Blood test results, completed in Mexico no more than 14 days before the date of marriage application
Marriage application forms, obtained from the local registry office
Birth certificates and valid passports Divorce Certificate(s) or Death Certificate(s), if applicable
All documents translated into Spanish, and notarized by the Mexican consulate in the U.S.
... and more!
